Welcome to Room 3's Blog
I am hoping that this blog will give you as parents another way to be connected to Room 3 and your child's learning.
I will be updating the blog with activities and work that we do in class and around the school.I will also use this blog to pass on any information that relates to your children's learning.
This year as most of you know the junior school are blended learning classes. In Room 3 we will be using ipads to help support and strengthen children's learning by giving them opportunities to use different apps to reinforce learning. This is just one way of reinforcing student learning. Some other examples we will be using are play-dough, drawing, listening to stories on CD's, reading library books , cooking ,making things to name a few.
From Monday to Thursday each morning will be when we do reading, shared reading, guided reading, handwriting, spelling, writing, "word works" and maths. In the afternoons will be topic and the other curriculum areas. On a Friday I run a 4 year old session and this is based around Language experiences.
Homework
Each day the children will bring home a reader which they have read with me. They need to read the reader a few times to family members so that they are able to read it independently. The focus as a beginning reader is to learn to follow the words as they read, be able to identify some basic words and point to them. As they move up the levels the focus is to get children to look at the beginning sounds of unknown words say the sound then think does it look right, sound right and does it make sense.Readers need to come back each day because they then read to me again and this helps me to see what strategies they need to help.
Spelling
They will have 4 to 5 words to learn each week. On Fridays they will be tested and new words will be added to the list. It is important that the children learn these words each day. They need to copy the words at least 4 times each. We are wanting the children to be able to write, say and read the words in their list.
Maths
The worksheet that they get is to reinforce the number knowledge that they are learning in class. This worksheet is to be done over 2 weeks.
Looking forward to adding to this blog and also Room three will be very interested in reading your comments as we post our blogs.
